What is WorkWell?

WorkSafe plays an important role in ensuring that Victorian workplaces focus on employees’ health and safety, so we are taking a proactive approach to support Victorian employers in creating safe and mentally healthy workplaces

WorkWell is a voluntary program delivered by WorkSafe, in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services and others. The program encourages workplaces to adopt a comprehensive approach to reduce the risk and prevent mental injury by providing targeted support to assist in promoting mental health and wellbeing. Alongside this, there is a continued focus on ensuring protection against work related risks to occupational health and safety, addressing mental injury or illness if it does occur and supporting return to work.

Why we’re here

WorkWell supports employers to control risk from work factors associated with the mental health and wellbeing of their employees, and to promote wellbeing more generally, so they can continue to contribute positively to the workplace, home and wider community.

The workplace is an ideal setting to promote mental health and wellbeing, as Victorian employees spend 1/3 of their time in the workplace. In addition, one in five Australians is expected to experience a mental health condition each year.

By empowering employees to thrive, employers find that their employees are more committed to their organisation’s goals, build better relationships with their peers, are inclined to deliver more effort and are therefore more productive

Both the employer and the employee benefit from promoting mental health and wellbeing.

Our aim

We support Victorian employers by providing tailored support, practical actions, simple steps and relevant resources to improve mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.

Employers have told us that they find the topic of workplace mental health and wellbeing difficult to navigate, and that they require help to figure out how best to promote mental health and wellbeing and prevent mental injury in the workplace. This includes identifying what’s already in place and where to focus efforts, as well as finding accurate, evidence-based information, tools and resources suitable for use in their workplace.

Our audience

Our focus is on creating change in the workplace, so WorkWell talks to Victorian workplaces and employers, including business owners, people leaders, HR managers and OHS representatives.

What we are offering Victorian employers

WorkWell Toolkit

An online hub that helps employers improve mental health and wellbeing in their workplace by providing clear steps to follow based on specific workplace needs.

Mental Health Improvement Fund

A large-scale investment to large organisations or industry groups committed to making systemic workplace changes to create thriving workplaces. WorkWell is looking for grant applications from organisations that can demonstrate an ability to achieve sector or industry-wide influence and sustainable change, along with experience in delivering programs to scale. There will be a focus on applications that protect industries with vulnerable workforces at greatest risk of poor mental health and wellbeing.

Learning Networks

Bringing together groups of like-employers through industry groups and associations to build Learning Networks that create positive workplace cultures. The Learning Networks will be outcome focussed and provide a platform for employers to both share ideas and learnings and receive support and advice from experts.
